HE Senator Chris Ekpenyong
Student Activist, Engineer and Politician.
Dr Chris Ekpenyong’s introduction to politics was in 1983 when, fresh from national service, he was elected to the House of Representatives. Before then, he had been very active in students activism and was elected into numerous national offices in the students movement of his time.
At 29, he was the youngest National Assembly member from the then Cross River State and one of the youngest nationally. Since then, he has spent his life between public and private services, bringing his professional expertise as a civil engineer and passion for service as a grassroots politician, to bear on the aspirations, growth and development of Akwa Ibom State.
Following the return to civil rule on May 29, 1999, Dr. Ekpenyong was elected Deputy Governor and served during the first term of His Excellency, Obong (Arc) Victor Attah (1999 – 2003). He returned to private business thereafter. In 2019, he contested, won and was inaugurated as Senator representing Akwa Ibom North Senatorial District under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Senator Ekpenyong holds an MBA and Doctor of Philosophy from Kensington University, Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. He holds National and Higher National Diplomas in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Federal Polytechnic, Bida and The Polytechnic Calabar.
