The Onuk Brothers
With the Onuk Brothers, Tony and Francis, it is simply the chemistry of science meets arts. Tony, a Physics graduate and his twin, Francis a Fine Arts graduate, are the co-founders of The Roothub, the business accerelator they created in 2014 to provide a safe and creative space for young people to experiment, build and grow their ideas, and access opportunities and resources required to bring their dreams to reality.
Natives of Ikot Annie Itam, in Itu LGA, Tony and Francis Onuk’s early exposure to computers in the early 90’s, fueled their passion for technology and has placed them at the forefront of driving ICT advancement in the state and beyond through their projects. Since inception, Roothub has impacted over 3,600 young persons in Akwa Ibom, and a cumulative of over 12,000 youths across the Niger Delta region. Their products work for top-tier technology companies across the country.
In 2018, global technology giant, Google honored them as a Finalist of the Global Impact Challenge Africa as one of the 12 organizations driving socio-economic impact in Africa. This year, Facebook awarded The RootHub a place in their global community accelerator program in recognition of their efforts in growing a vibrant community of young people looking to impact their immediate environment positively.
These days, the Onuk Twins are focussing their energies on how to export The RootHub which operates in Akwa Ibom and two other states, to the rest of Africa and the world at large.
Akwa Ibom celebrates them.
