Rev. Kufre-Abasi Ekanem
Clergy and ambassador
Kufre-Abasi Ekanem is a Lutheran priest following in the footsteps of his late father, Most Rev’d Effiong Etim Ekanem (JP) of Ekpene Ukim in Uruan Local Government Area.
After finishing from The Lutheran High School Obot Idim, Kufre-Abasi requested admission into the Jonathan Ekong Memorial Lutheran Seminary. He was 17 at the time of his admission into JEMLS and the youngest student ever to attend the seminary. His pastoral training included time at the Kitheran Church at Ibong Otoro in Abak Local Government Area at the age of 19. Upon graduation from JEMLS in 2019, Kufre-Abasi was automatically retained as faculty member at JEMLS. He doubled as part-time chaplain at The Lutheran Senior Science Secondary School Ibakachi – Ikono. He was also ordained by the Archbishop of The Lutheran Church of Nigeria, the Most Rev. Dr. Christian Ekong in a service conducted for this purpose at Peace Lutheran Church, Sussex, Wisconsin, United States, making him the youngest to be ordained priest in the Lutheran congregation in Nigeria.
Kufre-Abasi continues to teach at the Seminary although he is now completing his Masters of Sacred Theology Degree at the Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana in the area of Systematic Theology. The young theologian is poised not just with the extermination of bad theology but also with the development of humanity.
In the United States, Kufre-Abasi not only teaches and speaks about Christ, he is also a bold ambassador of Akwa Ibom State. “He never fails to mention that he is from Akwa Ibom State. And he cooks some delicious Akwa Ibom meals for us here,” Marcus Ziegler a German coursemate said of him.
Akwa Ibom Celebrates a young clergy who has chosen to dedicate his life to the Servixe of God.
