Mary Remarkable, a student, set record on humanitarian work
The life of Ms Mary Remarkable, a 24-year-old student from Onna Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, could be summed up in three words – service to humanity.
Ms Remarkable runs an NGO, Mary Remarkable Foundation, through which she provides humanitarian help to the poor and the vulnerable around Nigeria.
Her foundation in 2019 built a borehole water project for a remote island that hadn’t had any tap water before, in Eastern Obolo. She and her team ferried materials and workers across the river to the community for the historic project and sometimes had to spend nights on the island.
The NGO has provided fully funded scholarships to hundreds of poor kids in Nigeria. Also, over two thousand people have benefited from the organisation’s medical outreach.
Ms Remarkable, who lost her dad while she was 19, is studying Politics at the University of Coventry, United Kingdom.
“This humanitarian work is who I am,” she said. “It is what defines me and my existence.
