She was the star at the recent launch of the Ibibio Bible. Professor Eno-Abasi Urua (Mma Bröfesö Eno-Abasi Urua in Ibibio), delivered a two-page review in flawless Ibibio to resounding applause. Her review was the main highlight of the launch of the Ibibio Bible which she helped to produce.
Prof. Urua isbl not just an outstanding linguist, she simply stands out.
Prof. Urua holds a first degree from the University of Calabar, and Masters and Doctorate degrees from the University of Ibadan. She is a lecturer in the department of Linguistics, University of Uyo, where she has also served as Dean of Faculty, Director of International Programmes and Director for Gender Studies. Urua is a chip off the legendary linguist, then late Professor Okon Essien, who initiated the Ibibio Bible project and successfully convinced the United Nations to recognize Ibibio language among the 200 largest languages in the world. She was Practicum Instructor CoLang 2016 at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, USA, among others.
She recently completed one of the most comprehensive I bibio dictionaries. Proudly Akwa Ibom, she is most likely to speak to you in Ibibio if your roots are Akwa Ibom.
