Prof Comfort Ekpo

Aside from being the first female Professor of the University of Uyo, Prof Comfort Mmemfin Ekpo was also the University’s first female Vice Chancellor.

Appointed a Professor of Educational Technology in Nigeria’s independence day in 2001, she became Vice Chancellor in December 2010.

Prof Ekpo began her career in teaching in March, 1981 as a part-time Lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She went on to the then College of Education, Uyo in 1983 as Lecturer 111. She continued at the then University of Cross River State between 1983 to 1991. She transited to the University of Uyo in 1991, where got appointed an Associate Professor in 1998.

At the University of Uyo, she has served as Head of Department of Educational Technology and Library Science, Director, Institute of Education and Deputy Vice Chancellor.

A teacher trainer, she has trained and supervised many students across Nigeria.

Sought after as External Examiner and supervisor in many universities, Prof was Team Leader, collaborative research in synthetic phonics, the jolly phonics Read and Write New (RAWN) project.

Through her organisation, the Women in Total Development ( WIT-GIRL), she has touched the lives of many youngsters and women.
