When Christopher Stephen, popularly known as Mr Xto, fresh out of secondary school in 1991, won a Best Sunday Artiste award of the Cross River State Culture Centre Sunday Sunday Show, it was glaring that stardom in the world of music was imminent for him if he was to tow that road.
Tow that road he did, and ten years later in 2001, same year he came out with his first album, he was nominated by the Award for Musical Excellence in Nigeria, AMEN, for Best Reggae Album Award. By 2005, he was already inducted into the Nigeria Musical Hall of Fame.
Mr Xto remains about the most popular home based artiste in the whole of Cross River and Akwa Ibom and has served the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, PMAN, as State Governor, Akwa Ibom State and Chairman, Governors Forum in 2006. He has also performed regularly at national and international shows and for events sponsored by multinational firms.
Mr Xto is not only a musician. He is also an Artiste Manager, voice trainer, songwriter, stage performer, singer, events manager, promoter and marketing consultant.
The old boy of Hope Waddel Training Institution, Calabar, attended the Lagos City Polytechnic, the University of Calabar and the National Open University of Nigeria from where he bagged a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution.
Mr Xto is also an entrepreneur who, through his firms, South Central Records and South South Communications, has managed artistes like King Zoro Boy, Godfather, Effiom Trombone, Fada Kane, New Skool, aside himself and has handled electronic media consultancy for state governments and corporate bodies.
He remains about the most popular and consistent voice over artiste, especially in the production of advertising jingles in Akwa Ibom State.
