Mr. Akpan Wilson Etukudo is an economist who had a distinguished public service career, crowing it with his appointment as Minister of State for Finance in 1998. He hails from Atan Ikpe, Edemaya, in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area and is an alumnus of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, the University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Before his appointment as minister, he served as the Honourable Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development in Akwa Ibom State. Professionally, Mr. Etukudo began as a Commercial Officer in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Enugu in 1966 and attained the position of Principal Administrative Officer in 1974. In 1975, he served as Under Secretary, Cabinet Officer, Calabar and between 1977 and 1978, he served as the Principal Secretary to the Military Governor of Cross River State.
Mr. Etukudo was appointed Chief of Personal Staff to the Governor of Cross River State in 1979 and was made Permanent Secretary, Governor’s Office, Calabar in 1983. From 1984 to 1986, he served as the Liaison Officer, Cross Rivers State Liaison Office, Lagos and by 1987, he was appointed Director, Directorate for Food, Roads and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI), Cross River State and subsequently, the Director-General of DFRRI, Akwa Ibom State in 1988.
He served as Director-General, Ministry of Agriculture, Akwa Ibom State from 1989 to 1990, and was made the Honourable Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development amd thus a member of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council in 1991.
All of these didn’t go unnoticed at the state and national levels, and was nominated and appointed Minister of State for Finance in 1998, a position he used to better the good fortunes of Akwa Ibom State and the entire Nigerian nation during that transitional government.
