Elder Edet George Etuk
Retired Principal & Church Elder
Elder Edet George Utuk popularly known and addressed as UNCLE UTUK is best described as an inspirational leader, mentor and veteran teacher.
Born 9th September 1935 in Ibiaku Itam, Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Between 1942 and 1947, Utuk attended two primary schools, the St. Luke’s Lutheran School, Ibiaku Itam and the Bocler Memorial School, Ibesikpo where he obtained his standard six certificate. He attended the prestigious Boys High School, Oron from 1950 to 1955. The young, brilliant and promising Utuk started his teaching profession as a certificate trainee teacher at the Hope Wadell Institution, Calabar.
Thereafter from 1956-1958, he worked as a research assistant in the Pamol Farm for oil palm and banana, Cameroun.
From 1958-1960, he went to Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, Ibadan, Oyo State, for his higher school certificate. At the completion of this, enrolled for undergraduate studies in University College, Ibadan in 1961 and graduated with the London Bachelor’s Degree in Science (B.Sc), Botany/Zoology in 1964.
After graduation, he served firstly as a science teacher and later as Principal in eight different institutions in the then Cross River State, and Akwa Ibom State.

West African People’s Institute (WAPI), Calabar – 1976-1979
Independence High School, Ukana, Ikot Ekpene – 1979-1980

Senior Secondary Science School, Ndon-Eyo, Onna – 1985-1986
Etinan Institute, Etinan (Second Missionary Journey) – 1986-1990
Itam Secondary School, Itam – 1990-1996
Under Utuk’s influence, the schools excelled and became most sort after schools.
As a sincere and transparent Christian role model, he reached out mightily to his students and teachers, building and strengthening their faith with the gospel of Christ. He impacted positively on many of them, who have remained close to him till date. He retired from public service in 1996 after thirty-five (35) years of meritorious service.
In 1982, Utuk was ordained as an Elder of the Qua Iboe Church and he has served at various levels of the church in many capacities. His various awards and recognitions include:
The Scripture Union Nigeria Merit Award (Chairman, Uyo Region for many years), Ibadan Varsity Christian Union (IVCU), Achiever in Career Recognition Award, Qua Iboe Church (UEC) Awards for his meritorious services and stewardship as an Elder, Secretary of Finance Committee, member of Uyo Area Conference Standing Committee, Chairman, Board of Governors, Qua Iboe Church Nursery/Primary School, Uyo, Honorary member of the Nigerian Legion, Akwa Ibom State Council.
He is married and the union is blessed with five children, four male and one female, a son-inlaw, daughters-in-law and several grandchildren.
