Ekemini Eddy Umoh
Girl Child Education Advocate and Engineer
The Uforo Women Initiative is a girl child leadership and mentoring platform with the goal of growing a new generation of young women with interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Energy.
The initiative is led by a young woman who has broken the gender barrier in career, Engr Ekemini Eddy Umoh.
From Ikono Local Government Area, Ekemini holds an Electrical / Electronics Engineering Bachelor’s degree from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and a Masters degree in Energy and Power Electronic Systems from Warwick University, United Kingdom.
Her extensive expertise includes electrical projects design, consultation and supervision. She has an achievement track record and has received many distinctions awards. She is a licensed engineer with COREN (Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria), NEMSA (Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency) and a certified project manager.
Through the initiative, Ekemini hopes to see women empowered, especially in the tech sector where there are few women practitioners in Nigeria despite efforts to bridge the gender gap. Her vision is to see more confident women in male-dominated fields, women who are not defined by traditional stereotypes. She believes that women would make enormous contributions to the development and remodelling of our nation if accorded the opportunity.
