Dr Okitefre Oboho
Dr Okitefre Oboho is a renowned family physician currently in the United States of America but he is more in the hearts of his Oyoku-Ibighi community in Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Area for his philanthropic gesture which includes giving out annual bursary awards to indigenes of the community in higher institutions.
After his Primary education in 1965, he enrolled at Salvation Army Secondary School, Akai Ubium but completed his secondary education at Methodist Boys High School, Oron in 1971 emerging with the best result that year.
He studied Medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and was awarded the degrees of MB, BCh. After his National Youth Service Corp, he worked at Nya Clinic, Calabar and later joined the University of Calabar in 1981.
In 1982, he went to Glasgow, Scotland where he obtained his Masters Degree in General Practice and returned to the University of Calabar where he rose to the position of Deputy Director of Health Services. While on the position, he helped many Akwa Ibom State Students get admitted to study in various disciplines in the institution.
In 1993 he was appointed into Urue Offong/Oruko Caretaker Committee as the Vice Chairman and held the position till he relocated to the United States of America in 1995. He later joined the Department of Veterans Affairs, the second-largest employer in the USA and rose to the position of Medical Director at Atlanta VA Medical Centre Fort McPherson Community Based Clinic. He is also Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta and a Fellow of the American Academy Family Physicians and has several publications to his credit.
Winner of several awards and recognitions, he is into humanitarian services and philanthropy as he and his family directed their resources to the establishment of the Reverend Edet Okon Oboho Scholarship Programme for all Oyoku-Ibighi students who are in Colleges of Education, Polytechnics or Universities in Nigeria.
In recognition of his contributions to the development of the State, the Council of Oro Traditional Rulers conferred the prestigious Chieftaincy Title of Okete Okete Oro.
